For our second meeting of the Autumn programme, we welcomed James Knight from Tottenhoe who gave a very interesting talk entitled ‘Transport of Yesteryear’.  Illustrated with a collection of excellent slides, we were shown a comprehensive history of all forms of transport from late Victorian times up until the Second World War.   In 1900 there was a wide variety of horse drawn vehicles from flat trucks to trams and double-decker buses. There was then a development to steam driven powered lorries, trams and charabancs.  In the 1920s and 1930s, we saw the advent of electric and petrol driven vehicles.  Mr Knight had included some wonderful slides taken in Toddington of early trade vehicles, local buses and the depot in Conger Lane.  There were also illustrations of the Luton Electric Trams from 1908 until 1932.  All our members thoroughly enjoyed the evening of memories from the past.
